The Who We Are Project Hires Caitlin Lombardi as First Full-Time Development Director

The social justice and narrative change nonprofit, The Who We Are Project (TWWAP), is pleased to announce Caitlin Lombardi as the first full-time Development Director. Caitlin joins the organization as it begins preparations for rapid growth and development in their efforts to capture and preserve the nation’s history of anti-Black racism. Plans are underway for a major fundraising campaign that will support the development of a major docu-series, expanded digital publishing activities, and additional local programs around the country.

The Who We Are Project CEO Jeffery Robinson shared, ”We are lucky to have Caitlin join our team at this critically important time for our organization and our country. Her experience and her dedication to the cause of racial justice made her a stand-out candidate, and my trust and confidence in her are increased by the fact that I know she brings her heart to this work as well.”

Caitlin brings 17 years of experience in nonprofit development, racial justice, DEI, and community engagement to her role as Development Director. Most recently, Caitlin was Director of Development and Communications for Columbia Legal Services, a legal aid organization working alongside people who are incarcerated or undocumented. Additionally, she spent 12 years in development and communications with The ACLU of Washington and the Post-Prison Education Project, and she led social impact programs for The Riveter.

Caitlin is a dedicated reparationist and believes we cannot achieve the progress we seek toward racial justice without first telling the truth about the anti-Black racism that got us here. She shared, “I am deeply humbled by the opportunity to support The Who We Are Project as it endeavors to unearth and teach the true history of our nation – essential to restoring our shared humanity.”

Outside of work, Caitlin serves on the Bainbridge Island Race Equity Advisory Committee, leads presentations and information sessions for the Civil Reparations Project, and has three daughters who keep her busy and delighted.

In her role as Development Director, Caitlin will work with the leadership team to not only develop a successful major fundraising campaign, but to build a fundraising team that ensures that the critical work of The Who We Are Project will be sustained and advanced for the long term. She begins working with TWWAP in a part-time capacity immediately and will be moving to full-time in late September 2024.

The Who We Are Project is a nonprofit organization challenging the dominant narrative of our nation’s founding, demonstrating how anti-Black racism was and remains a central part of U.S. history, and working to promote education, discourse, healing, and change.
